The central concern of Ready for Europe is the development and acquisition of additional qualifications for apprenticeships that include an aspect of vocational training, specifically for the following professions:

• Industrial mechanic
• Construction mechanic
• Systems mechanic for sanitary, heating and climate technology
• Electronic technician for technical equipment and installation
• Mechatronic technician for refrigeration and climate technology

Additional qualifications can be acquired in Germany as well as in some European countries (Holland and the UK) through placements lasting multiple weeks. A significant part of the additional qualification is the achievement of language and intercultural competencies.  In the light of increasing internationalisation of businesses it is necessary for employees to be able to confidently act in foreign surroundings and be fluent in the use of foreign languages.

Further project goals are:

• Creation of further apprenticeships in the Weser Ems region
• Prevention of skills shortages
• Creating incentives and motivation for apprentices
• Cultivating intercultural learning
• Developing and setting up of structures to allow these additional qualifications to be recognised by higher education (as credit points)
• Developing structures allowing the achievement of twin qualifications (vocational and academic)
• Establishing additional qualifications
• Achieving image improvements through public recognition
